Preserving the History:
The Tubac Historical Society
The Tubac Historical Society Library & Gift Shop (aka The
Elizabeth R. Brownell Research Library & Gift Shop) is located
in an old adobe on the northeast side of Placita de Anza in
the heart of Tubac's historical district. Known locally as "the
pink house," the small landmark building is believed to
date to 1904 or earlier and was once known as the "little
Lowe house."
The
Tubac Historical Society is an all-volunteer, member-supported
organization with a staff that's passionate about the region's
distinctive history. The library is open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Thursday through Sunday, from October to April. Researchers
and educators may make appointments to use the library by contacting
Mary Bingham at the
Society office at 520.398.2020 or via email: mbing1@mindspring.com.
The library includes:
- Over 3000 volumes on Arizona and Southwestern history, biography,
geology, geography, politics, philosophy, religion, nature,
fiction, children's literature, sociology and economics.
- Books by local authors.
- Tapes and transcriptions of oral histories, interviews and
THS monthly programs.
- Periodicals, pamphlets an clippings.
- Historical and current maps of the Tubac area.
- Rare books and documents.
- Hispanic and Territorial heritage center.
The gift shop features books, postcards, posters and gift items
pertaining to Tubac and the surrounding area.
The Tubac Historical Society would like your support! Memberships
in The Tubac Historical Society go to further the cause of preserving
and expanding the historical resources of Tubac and Santa Cruz
County.
